Constipation is defined by a decrease in the frequency of stools being passed. Stools are often hard and dry as a result. It is important to monitor your cat’s stool daily. Often, when constipated, your cat will try to defecate and may make frequent trips to the litter tray without success. If not tended to, constipation can worsen and result in a fecal impaction. This consists of a collection of very hard, dry fecal material that cannot be expelled without medical intervention.
