My cat
Advices from our vets

Is it really necessary to clean a cat’s ears?

Compared to that of dogs, cats’ ears are equipped with a better self-cleaning system. This means there are no real recommendations as to the optimal cleaning frequency of your companion’s ears. Most often with cats, dirt is concentrated in the auricle.

However, if dirt is visible and seems to be bothering your companion (if it is scratching its ear or holding it differently), it is important to search for the root cause and consult your veterinarian. It could, for instance, be ear mites.

Finally, it is always good to get your cat used to being handled in different ways from a very young age.
