Advices from our vets
There are multiple causes of constipation. In dogs that are older or affected by certain illnesses, intestinal transit is slowed. Physical activity, along with water intake also affects transit. Constipation can arise as a result of having ingested pieces of bone. A diet that is balanced and sufficiently rich in certain types of fibres is essential for evacuation of stools. There are also causes that are external to the digestive tract, such as gestation in females, or a prostate issue in males.
