Did you know that organic cosmetics are now the most purchased organic products after food? This is what the *"Barometer of Consumption and Perception of Organic Products in France"* published by the Agence Bio reveals. Are you one of the 90% of French people or more who are won over by this new way of consuming?
A Taste for Healthy Eating
For several years now, the French have been seeking change in their consumption habits. They want to consume more responsibly and sustainably. Over the past five years, the French organic sector has doubled, propelling the country to the top of the European production rankings. This trend clearly accelerated in 2020, with a 12% increase. Indeed, 13% of French citizens now report consuming organic products daily. Following the crisis, organic has become a safe haven for many. While 58% and 56% of the French say they choose organic for quality—taste—and environmental preservation, respectively, nearly 7 out of 10 do so primarily to protect their health.
"More Than a Trend, a Mindset"
57% of French people have changed their shopping habits and eating behaviors. 61% now avoid waste, and nearly 6 in 10 buy more seasonal and fresh products. Finally, over one in two citizens favor local products and short supply chains. This new way of consuming reflects a more eco-conscious approach, and it continues to grow year after year.
Natural Cosmetics Follow Food Trends Closely
Choosing organic for cosmetic products also reflects a commitment from consumers. The main reasons are health and environmental preservation, although the effectiveness of these products in terms of hygiene and beauty is decisive for 60% of them. The challenge seems to be met, as 3 out of 4 French people have already used an organic cosmetic product, and nearly 6 out of 10 have purchased one in the last 12 months.
