Pollen and Irritations: How to Protect Your Pet’s Eyes This Spring?

Pollen and Irritations: How to Protect Your Pet’s Eyes This Spring?

Spring has finally arrived, a time for long walks in the woods or the park. However, for our dogs and cats, this season also marks the return of irritating environmental particles. Grass fragments, pollen, and airborne dust can build up on the eye’s surface, causing visible discomfort. As a caring pet owner, knowing how to maintain your pet’s ocular health is key to their well-being.

Understanding the Impact of Pollen on the Eye

Unlike us, our pets explore the world nose to the ground, directly exposing themselves to irritating particles. When these particles settle on the cornea or under the eyelids, they often cause mechanical irritation. You may then notice red eyes, clear tearing, or your pet trying to rub their eyes with their paws.

It’s crucial to note that cleaning is not treating. Cleaning is a hygiene practice aimed at removing foreign bodies and secretions. If the eye appears cloudy, causes sharp pain, or shows purulent discharge (yellowish/greenish), a visit to your veterinarian is essential to rule out a condition requiring specific treatment.

The Right Steps for Effective Cleaning

To maintain perfect hygiene, cleaning should be done gently, ideally after every spring outing:

  • Use a clean compress (avoid cotton, which may leave fibers).
  • Soak this compress with the cleansing solution.
  • Gently clean the eye contour, starting from the inner corner (near the nose) and moving outward.
  • Never touch the eye directly with the bottle tip to prevent contamination or discomfort for your pet.

MP Labo Expertise: Phytobiovet Eye Cleanser®

To meet the requirements of this hygiene routine, MP Labo has developed Phytobiovet Eye Cleanser®, a cleansing lotion specifically formulated to respect the ocular balance of domestic carnivores.

  • A gentle solution enriched with Rose and Cornflower waters, respecting the physiological pH of the ocular area.
  • It enables effective mechanical cleansing of pollen, dust, and secretions, while soothing the skin tissues around the eyes.
  • This hygiene routine helps maintain ocular cleanliness and supports daily comfort for your pet during the spring season.

By incorporating these expert practices into your daily routine, you ensure your companion receives optimal protection against seasonal environmental stressors.
